Finally decided my Bachelor Thesis
Today, I met Dr.Stefan Lankes, The Chair of Operating System, RWTH Aachen University and have finally decided on my bachelor thesis. Details are given below :
A chip called SCC ( Single-chip Cloud Computer ) is developed by Intel Cooperation. This chip contains 48 cores in it and each core has its own private memory and shared memory as well. The main advantage is, the processor need not wait for long time for the memory, as they can utilize its own private memory. The SCC can run all its 48 cores at one time over a range of of 25W to 125W and selectively vary the voltage and frequency of the mesh network as well as sets of cores. For more details on SCC please go through the following link:
A 32 bit Linux based Operating System is already being designed on this particular chip. RWTH Aachen University is working on design and implementation of 64 bit Linux based Operating System on SCC. My work will be to analyse, design and implement the whole Operating System on this chip. I will be working in a team and there are professors who will be guiding me. This whole process is step by step. The micro kernel is already being designed and implemented. We need to further move to next phases ie, analyse, design and implement Scheduler, Paging, System Context, Memory Management and so on.The end product of this project is a 64 bit linux based Operating System for SCC. The expected duration is about 4 months from the day I register my bachelor thesis.
This project is directly fully funded by Intel Cooperation. Its going to be interesting, amazing and tough. I am now waiting for an email from my Supervisor Dr. Stefan Lankes for my reading assignments. Pretty much excited about it.
Lets see how far can I contribute to this.

way to go, man!
Great going dude. All the best!
Congrats.
thank you all…!
hey…
i read all of your blogs…they are very good…
i have one thing to ask…do you have any material on design and implementation of operating system…
i mean how to design and implement over own operating system…i tried out but without any hit…thanks in advance…
hey wathsa, thanks and check you e-mail.
